difference between jpeg, gif and png

The difference betweena jpeg, gif and png.

Jpeg files are a type of compressed bitmap files. JPEG stands for Joint Photograhic Experts group. Jpeg is very usefull for analysing what data is most important in a particular image. The jpeg file format is well suited for digital photography but it doesnt work well in saving line drawings and clip art images that have little available data to compress.

Gif files aka. Graphic Interchange format is another compressed bitmap file. unlike Jpeg GIF files are saved using lossless compression technique. And GIF works well for line drawings black and white grapics and simple text-based images. Also GIF allows animation and Transparecy Gif is mot that suited for photos because it onlu supports 256 colours.

PNG aka Portable network graphics format is suppirior to GIF because it supports milions of colours unlike GIF.
